King Floyd - What Our Love Needs b/w Groove Me, 1970, Chimneyville Records, Malaco Music, Roffignac Music
There’s so many nuances to this song, I honestly would only be doing justice for my own experience when describing it; so that’s the story that I’ll tell.
We’re in a pub with one of the best jukebox players in the land. We’re belly-up at the bar, it’s well after hours, we’ve been talking loud about everything, and nothing. The box has been playing the best of Bowie, Al, Otis, Percy, James, then Floyd drops at some point. We both look at each other awestruck, then drunkenly try to get out of our stools to dance, but realize just how dripped up we are that we cautiously nestle ourselves back in and, laughing out loud, groove with each other in our seats. The bar-keep smiles, and pours us another one.
The rest of that night is for us. I miss my Vanilla Pudding.
King Floyd, thank you for the grooves, baby!
