The Kinks - Lola b/w Mindless Child Of Motherhood, Lola Versus Powerman and the Moneygoround, Part One, 1970, Reprise Records, Hill & Range Songs, Inc.
I just recently learned that the story of this song is about a chance encounter between a young man and a transvestite. Yes, you read that right. It’s sung in such a sing-song way, and with so much passion, that one can miss out on the content, even after years of listening to it. Apparently, Ray Davies wrote it after his manager had a long night with some tranny. That is excellent material!
I love this song even more now that I know the history.
